Join Otis Lumumba and his network of famous songwriters at this special summer workshop delving deep into Congolese musical culture. Here Otis will explain and teach old and new tools of Congo also otis will teach old and new soukous guitar technique.
This three-night programme is designed to provide an educational and enjoyable experience for musicians and songwriters, regardless of the instrument they play or the style of music they write. We look at how music can leave its home territory to go worldwide, and also look at how music is used on TV, radio, online streaming, film soundtracks. We explore how to tell your musical story, build your skills and make a living from your craft.
On the third day we will be joined by the most legendary names in Soukous – including the great Kanda Bongo Man – who will tell us about their lives in Soukous and how to compose and play songs from this wonderful tradition.

Welcome to Soukous Online Camp Village!
Soukous and Rumba music have been my speciality for many years. We believe in this music with a passion, and want to inspire others to enjoy this eternal and universal guitar style.
The one-off Bass Camp will be led by guitarist Otis Lumumba and based on our awesome Soukous and Rumba bass guitar styles. The Bass Camp welcomes all stages – from beginners to intermediate and advanced. All levels of bass guitar proficiency are welcome and our aim is learn, play great music and have lots of fun.
Students will work on songs they have always wanted to learn from Congolese rumba to Soukous style with scales and classic songs. By the end of the camp, we guarantee that you will be playing soukous and rumba bass guitar with a professional, sweet and beautiful touch.
We believe in doing one thing very well, and that knowledge is best learned through experience. Our method is based on the students’ love and enthusiasm for music.
All of our courses are highly interactive. We encourage our students to participate and ask questions, as well as to share any information that may help the class.
Every student has a natural ability, and at Otis Lumumba Go Where the Guitar Takes You, we incorporate a unique blend of studies to help every student achieve and recover their ‘natural’ rhythm – not only in music, but also in life.
Students will be placed in small groups on the zoom platform. Each group will alternate between specialised music. The classes are designed to be enlightening and relaxing with plenty of breaks in between.
Before the end of each camp session, students can complete their day’s learning, discuss what they have learned during the session and assimilate the day’s activities.

This workshop is for those who want to get involved in the craft of Soukous and Rumba music, rather than just “playing” music, with a view towards becoming a session guitarist.
Here, we will learn the skills needed to become a session guitarist and how we gradually develop by experience and practice. Intended for those who already have to some proficiency at guitar, it will put you into a position where you can legitimately contact producers, artists and engineers who want top guitarists who can step up for sessions to record great guitar parts.
For three days we will explore and discover the dynamics and techniques of music crafting. We also discuss how to take care of your guitar, career guidance, learning new musical skills and playing with an ensemble rather than alone.
