Q: How and when do I apply for WORKSHOPS?
A: Please check the site to find out when the registration period is open by visiting the Workshops or Schedule page. We suggest you read through the entire workshop website before completing an application. We also recommend that you register early to help assure your spot and to get our “early bird” pricing. (When offered.) Remember, keep checking back to see when the registration period is open.
Q: How much do the WORKSHOPS cost?
A: The price varies depending on which package you choose. Check the website for the cost of each package. We’re confident that they represent good value for money !
Q: What skill level do I need to attend your workshops? Do I need to audition?
A: There are no qualifications or skill levels required and we don’t hold auditions. All are welcome and we will help you improve regardless of your ability. Some classes may be aimed at the more experienced player – please see each package for information and don’t hesitate to get in contact if you need more information.
Q: Is the WORKSHOP really as fun as I’ve heard?
A: Very much so. Our intention is to make your experience as enjoyable and relaxed as possible, and to help you gain more guitar and bass skills.
Q: I’m a singer. Can I attend?
A: Yes. We welcome vocalists!
Q: I play different instruments. Can I come?
A: Bring along your instrument of choice and we’ll make it work.
Q: Will there be an instructor to address my specific instrument?
A: Let us know what your instrument is in advance and Otis will tell you the best package for you.
Q: How do you choose who gets accepted to attend THE WORKSHOPS?
A: All are welcome to our Soukous workshop. We enjoy spreading the word about this wonderful music.
Q: How many students do you accept?
A: Workshops can hold up to 60 participants on Zoom. Single classes are just for one-to-one teaching.
Q: Who teaches at the WORKSHOP? Will Otis be there?
A: Otis will teach at each workshop, and will bring guest instructors too – and sometimes surprise guests from the world of soukous!
Q: What do you teach at THE WORKSHOPS?
We aim to impart a range of skills, so that you leave far better equipped to play soukous music – and to raise your game if you’re already a soukous guitarist or bassist. Among the things we look at are technique, theory, groove, and listening skills.
Q: Where ARE THEWORKSHOPS held?
A: They are held on Zoom, so that our international brothers and sisters can join us wherever they are in the world (UK time zone). Watch out for physical soukous workshops in the future!
Q: When do you have WORKSHOPS and how many do you have each year?
A: They take place all year round. Keep your eye on our schedule!
Q: Can I be a volunteer AT one of your WORKSHOPS?
A: Once you have attended one of our camps, please get in touch about being a volunteer.
Q: Can I repeat a WORKSHOP that I've already attended?
A: You are welcome to return as many times as you like.
Q: Can I register ON BEHALF OF someone else?
A: Yes, especially if you are the parent or legal guardian of the applicant. Workshop enrolment also makes a perfect gift.
Q: Other than my instrument, what else should I bring to A WORKSHOP?
A: A complete list of “What to Bring” will be supplied in the welcome letter when you register.
Q: Can I record the classes?
A: You can record the audio of a class but please don't conduct a video recording. This is to protect participants who may not wish to be identified.
Q: Can I bring a friend or spouse to THE WORKSHOPS with me?
A: Students under the age of 18 may be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Q: How do I get to THE WORKSHOPS?
A: A unique Zoom link will be provided.
Q: Can my whole band or school band attend a WORKSHOP?
A: Yes. We encourage bands to attend. We also offer private workshops for schools and teachers.
Q: What is your WORKSHOP refund policy?
A: If you have already paid in full and need to cancel, we will issue a full refund up until two weeks prior to your program start date. From two weeks until the program start date, all fees are NON-REFUNDABLE.
