Biography


Fiston Lusambo was born in Kinshasa. He started to learn guitar at age of 13, then studied music at the INA music school in Kinshasa, after which he joined Orchestre Bisengo of Gérard Madiata, Rumba Ray, Maray and Papa Wemba.
From a musical background, Fiston is also known in Kinshasa by the nickname ‘Fils a Papa’ – meaning a son who followed the path of his father – because his father Kaya Antoine Depuissant was a renowned musician in the group African Jazz of Grand Kalle.

After a move to Kenya Fiston played in Virunga of Samba Mapangala. He then moved to UK where he played in Baboma Combat, Mose Fanfan, Taxi pata pata, Afriquoi, Zong Zing and many others. A master of Soukous guitar, Fiston can also play many other styles.
